This paper discusses the establishment of a relationship between the Town and the Ditidaht Nation. The Ditidaht were seeking a long term relationship with a local government because their transition to self governance was going to be lengthy and would entail considerable effort. The Town made a commitment to assist the Ditidaht to develop capacity by making the Town's professional and administrative staff available to help with the Ditidaht's transition to responsible self-governance.
