May 8, 2024 - New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services Expand Scope of Practice
Under the new scope of practice, New Westminster firefighters will be able to assess blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, and chest sounds. They will also be able to administer nitroglycerin and acetylsalicylic acid medication for emergency cardiac events, use bleeding control and pelvic binding tools for traumatic events, and have more pain control options.

May 3, 2024 - Province Takes Action to Strengthen Rural Southern Interior Economies
The Government of B.C. is contributing as much as $33 million across rural areas of the province through the second intake of the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP). Communities in the southern Interior region will be receiving as much as $4 million from REDIP for 15 approved projects to help strengthen local economies.
May 2, 2024 - Vancouver Leads the Development of Digital Credentials Technology with Provincial Partners to Improve Municipal Services
In December 2023, the Province initiated a Digital Business Card pilot program for sole proprietorships. The City of Vancouver became the first municipal government to accept this credential, allowing applicants to use it when filling out applications for new business licences and as proof of business ownership.

May 1, 2024 - City of New Westminster Opens təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre
The new 10,644 square metre (114,571 square foot) state-of-the-art facility is the City of New Westminster’s largest capital project to date. The combined aquatic and community centre is LEED Gold certified and is Canada’s first completed all-electric facility to achieve the Canada Green Building Council’s (CAGBC) Zero Carbon Building-Design Standard.

Local governments across the country have launched similar initiatives to help ensure that the correct information is shared with residents. Cities including Prince George, Kelowna, and Welland, Ontario have all implemented this proactive communication tactic to support the dissemination of accurate information. The City will select topics based on widely discussed information that is not accurate and is causing public confusion.
