Langford Launches City Fact Check Page as a Resource for Residents
City of LangfordLANGFORD - On April 25, 2024, the City of Langford launched a City Fact Check page on LetsChatLangford.ca to provide ease of access to factual information for residents, businesses, and those with a vested interest in City business. The pilot project seeks to increase transparency, correct or clarify misinformation or disinformation, provide helpful facts, and ensure accurate background information is available on some of the most widely discussed and compelling topics that are important to Langford residents.
In today’s world, information on almost any subject is easily available from a variety of sources. Whether fact, fiction, opinion-based, or somewhere in-between, information travels quickly and at times can be contradictory, confusing, and often overwhelming. The City Fact Check page sets out to provide quick access to factual information in one place. Posts will include links to Council meeting recordings, and staff reports to ensure ease of access to Council discussions, process, and decisions.
Local governments across the country have launched similar initiatives to help ensure that the correct information is shared with residents. Cities including Prince George, Kelowna, and Welland, Ontario have all implemented this proactive communication tactic to support the dissemination of accurate information.
The City will select topics based on widely discussed information that is not accurate and is causing public confusion.
Members of the public can subscribe to receive newsletter notifications, and updates from the City Fact Check page by visiting LetsChatLangford.ca.
