RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of a recreation facility including preparing operating schedules and overseeing facility usage.
  • Supervise programming and clerical staff including planning and assigning work; and participating in recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Provide superior customer service by working with staff to establish and maintain service standards; responding to enquiries from the public and user groups regarding the use and availability of facilities; and investigating and resolving complaints from the public and user groups.
  • Enforce rules and regulations to ensure safety and behavioural standards are maintained; and ensure the security of the facility.
  • Coordinate facility and program requirements for events for outside agencies and user groups.
  • Lead staff in planning, organizing, and coordinating area specific programs and community-wide recreation events.
  • Oversee and participate in program planning.
  • Liaise with Building Services regarding facility maintenance and janitorial services.
  • Co-chair facility health & safety committee, organize inspections, meetings and annual in-service
  • Monitor operating budgets and provide input into capital planning.
  • Prepare and maintain records including activity records, requisitions, and equipment inventories.
  • Provide input into policies and procedures.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of the operations of a recreation facility and the ability to oversee the day-to-day operations.
  • Considerable knowledge of recreation principles, methods and practices and the rules, regulations, policies and procedures that govern the work.
  • Sound knowledge of the administrative practices and procedures applicable to the work including the ability to prepare and monitor operating budgets, facility schedules and equipment inventories.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of programming and clerical staff including monitoring and managing performance.
  • Ability to establish and build strong working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to enforce rules, regulations and behavioural standards within the facility in a manner consistent with the customer service principles of NVRC.
  • Ability to investigate, respond to and resolve enquiries and complaints.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
College or university graduation with courses in recreation or related subjects, supplemented by considerable related experience including, supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for business use.
 
This is a regular full-time position involving shift work including days, evenings and weekends for 35 hours per week.
 
All employees should be prepared to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position prior to any appointment.
 
HOURLY RATES: The pay for this unionized position ranges from $39.14 - $46.07 per hour.
