Senior Business Analyst 


Summary
This position bridges the gap between Information Technology (IT) and the business. The incumbent is the functional specialist on the use of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial system software, SAP. The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for ensuring the ERP system meets business needs. The incumbent focuses on reviewing, designing, updating, documenting and maintaining overall financial business processes as well as collaborates with IT to develop and implement new ERP system functions, processes and changes. As the primary liaison between Finance and IT, this position speaks the language of Finance and helps translate functional requirements to IT. You will work within a complex environment with many stakeholders. Communication skills are critical to understand, interpret and explain technical issues that impact business operations. In addition, this position ensures the data quality and consistency of financial master data. You will help maximize business’s effectiveness by using data to form business insights and recommend changes to business processes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Documents, reviews, analyses, and evaluates financial business processes, and provides recommendations for improvement. 
  • Re-engineer and streamline existing business process for improved efficiency.
  • Develops system solutions including work procedure changes and recommends the most effective alternative to assist staff in meeting their operational requirements.
  • Using data, compiles charts, tables, and other elements of data to create financial models to support business decisions.
  • Leads, coordinates and documents financial system projects through all phases from planning through to maintenance and support including providing project updates to stakeholders.
  • Participates in defining project scope and objectives, in collaboration with Manager of Financial Systems and IT, for financial systems projects ensuring stakeholders requirements will be met.
  • Troubleshoots system errors, perform testing of problem fixes, and addresses inquiries from Finance user(s) regarding system related concerns.
  • Develops, coordinates, executes and review test cases, scripts, plans and procedures to ensure all objectives are met and solutions work as expected. 
  • Assists Finance user(s) with the use and adoption of system changes, responsibilities include preparing to-be process documentation and training materials, conducting training sessions and providing first level support after go-live.
  • Assists in developing financial master data governance by providing alignment and balance between financial reporting needs and ERP standards and provides the ongoing maintenance. 
  • Conducts and/or coordinates user acceptance testing (UAT) of system. implementation/enhancement, application upgrades and new reports prior to providing approval for implementation.
  • Works cross-functionally with various stakeholders to continuously identify improvements to financial systems and processes based on business needs and best practices.
  • Follows all CRD policies, procedures and standards.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Key Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of both accounting and budget principles and ERP systems with the ability to integrate technical and functional perspectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify key issues and effectively summarize them both verbally and in writing.
  • Understands and identifies business implications of data system designs and the data requirements of user needs.
  • Understanding of business analysis methodologies (e.g., Business Process Modeling, SWOT, PESTLE, MoSCoW, and/or other)
  • Understanding of process improvement methodologies (e.g., Agile Business Analysis, Six Sigma, Lean, and/or other process improvement concepts).
  • Understanding of project management methodologies and processes with the ability to complete projects on time, within scope and within budget.
  • Understanding of change management practices such as PROSCI.
  • Knowledge of change management processes and stakeholder consultation.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools (e.g., SAP Business Objects, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, and/or other).
  • Oral and written communication skills in order to explain the capabilities and limitations of current financial data systems to financial colleagues and end users.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with internal stakeholders and partners to understand and document business requirements. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with technical and non-technical staff and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency and experience with word processing (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS Excel) and presentation (MS PowerPoint) software.
  • Ability to coordinate work of those over whom one has no direct authority. 
  • Ability to plan, organize, and structure work.
  • Proven analytical skills and systematic problem solving.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment or individually with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to think innovatively and critically to assist in developing solutions.
  • Experience in gathering, understanding, and documenting business requirements is required. 
  • Experience facilitating workshops and communicating with diverse business, technical, and management stakeholder groups is required.


Qualifications

  • Degree in a related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years' directly related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
