Environmental Outreach Assistant

Rate of Pay: $28.15 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits  
Hours of Work: Up to 80 hours bi-weekly

Summary
The Capital Regional District (CRD) delivers various outreach and education programs in support of wastewater, drinking water, climate action, environmental protection and solid waste services for the region. This position will support residential outreach initiatives, conduct background research, compile data and provide summary reports.
 
Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of a variety of environmental outreach campaigns and initiatives, including wastewater and solid waste management, drinking water conservation, biodiversity, climate action and other related CRD services.
  • Participates in outreach activities at a variety of community events across the region, often working in partnership with municipal and community partners, which may include manning displays; engaging with public to deliver key messages; delivery, set up and maintenance of water stations.
  • Gather information, conduct background research, and provide support in the development of outreach content and delivery.
  • Assists with the drafting of messages and content for various communications platforms (e.g., social media, website, newsletters, static displays).
  • Represents the CRD in a professional and informed manner.
  • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Additional Information

  • The anticipated length of this term assignment is approximately 16-20 weeks. The schedule does include some weekend work.


Key Skills & Abilities

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment essential.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, identify and solve problems, organize and prioritize work and produce results.
  • Excellent interpersonal/ communication skills (oral and written) in communicating effectively with staff and the general public.
  • Knowledge of local natural areas and habitat and their stressors and experience working with GIS is an asset.
  • Ability to gather research material and support data analysis.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft computer software applications including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable with urban cycling is an asset.


Qualifications

  • High School Graduation
  • Post-secondary courses in a related discipline
  • A minimum of six months' directly related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience


Certifications

  • Valid BC Driver's Licence
