Cowichan Aquatic Centre Expansion

NORTH COWICHAN - In 2018, North Cowichan received a Federal Gas Tax Grant of $2.4 million to expand and renovate the much loved Cowichan Aquatic Centre. The expansion will include:

  • a larger competitive pool deck,
  • new folding bleachers,
  • community program space,
  • expansion of the upstairs gym and group fitness rooms, and
  • new private areas for fitness consultations.


Re-Opening:

Construction began in June 2020 during a complete facility closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When the facility reopened to patrons in the fall, work was largely completed. Now, as of December 21, 2020, we are excited to announce the construction is complete! In lieu of a grand re-opening, since we cannot gather together in the community right now, please check out this short video that highlights the work that has been done! Background & Construction Updates: 

While renovations will be ongoing, the Aquatic Centre can safely be re-opened to patrons with a phased resumption of services as construction continues. Council approved staff’s plan to re-open the facility to the public under the provision of its COVID-19 Restoration of Programs & Services Plan, and the facility will one again open its doors to the public on October 13, 2020. To protect the health and safety of all patrons and staff, all guidelines put forward by the Provincial Health Officer and senior levels of government will be observed.
