City of Coquitlam Recognized as a Top Employer

City of Coquitlam

COQUITLAM - For the second year in a row, the City of Coquitlam has been recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers.

Good People Make Coquitlam Great
With B.C.’s unemployment rate the lowest in the country, employers are going out of their way to attract and retain top talent – and Coquitlam is no exception.

Maternity leave top-up, staff social events to foster corporate engagement, and retirement planning assistance are among the reasons Coquitlam earned a place on the BC’s Top Employers list for 2019.

The City of Coquitlam, which has over 800 full-time staff, prides itself on a corporate culture that recognizes the importance of work-life balance and opportunities for training and advancement, including an award-winning Leadership Development Program.

Prospective employees are drawn by these benefits along with the City’s commitment to engaging the community, and the growth and change spurred in part by the new SkyTrain line.

About BC’s Top Employers
In its 14th year, the annual competition is organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers to recognize B.C. employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Coquitlam and the other 84 2019 winners were featured Feb. 21 in a special supplement of the Vancouver Sun.

Applicants were evaluated on nine criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

Nominees were compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offered the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. Coquitlam, Vancouver, and the District of North Vancouver are the only Metro Vancouver municipalities to have been awarded this distinction for 2019.

The competition is sponsored by Mediacorp Canada, a publisher of employment periodicals that has managed the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project since 1999, operates the job search engine, and co-hosts the Top Employer Summit for senior human resources professionals.
