The Government of B.C is contributing as much as $33 million across rural areas of the province for the second intake of the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP). Communities in northern B.C. will receive as much as $13.3 million in REDIP funding for 42 approved projects to help strengthen local economies.

May 14, 2024 - Province Takes Action to Prevent Evictions in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside
The Province has introduced amendments to the Municipalities Enabling and Validating Act (MEVA) at the request of the City of Vancouver, to enable the city to regulate SRO vacancy control to protect rent affordability for tenants that include some of the city’s most vulnerable residents. The amendments, if passed, will validate Single Room Accommodation bylaws that limit rent increases between tenancies at SROs, as set out in Vancouver’s bylaws.
May 14, 2024 - Contract Reached between CUPE 608 and City of Penticton
The agreement will see improvements to dental plan, sick leave, shift premiums, pay in lieu of benefits for casual/part-time employees and vacation leave improvements for new employees, as well as other improvements to collective agreement language.

May 8, 2024 - New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services Expand Scope of Practice
Under the new scope of practice, New Westminster firefighters will be able to assess blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, and chest sounds. They will also be able to administer nitroglycerin and acetylsalicylic acid medication for emergency cardiac events, use bleeding control and pelvic binding tools for traumatic events, and have more pain control options.
