About You / What We Are Looking For
 Our Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities department is currently recruiting for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Recreation Leader to assist in the development and implementation of fitness focused recreational programs and services at Coquitlam recreation facilities. This individual will be responsible for: directing programs, promoting interest and encouraging participation in program activities, providing guidance and advising facility users on specified activities, and assisting in directing the work of Program Leaders - Fitness, Recreation Instructors, and Volunteers. This position will be located at Poirier Sports & Leisure Complex and follows a Tuesday to Saturday schedule with 2 evenings required.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally possess post-secondary education in Recreation or a directly related discipline at a recognized Community College, paired with community recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other requirements include:

  • Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia (with satisfactory driving record), and access to reliable transportation;
  • Emergency First Aid;
  • CPR Level A/AED or equivalent;
  • BCRPA Registered Weight Trainer and/or Personal Trainer (or equivalent affiliation);
  • BCRPA Registered Group Fitness Leader (or equivalent affiliation).


Additional training such as High Five Principles, Physical Literacy, NCCP, PDP, or ECE would also be considered assets. Candidates will be required to have flexible evening and weekend availability.

Preferred Qualifications:
BCRPA registration as a Supervisor of Fitness Leaders would be considered an asset.

What We Offer
This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $30.70 - $36.06 per hour (2024 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
