FOOD SERVICES COOK

The West Vancouver Community Services Department has an immediate opening for casual Food Services Cooks at the Seniors Activity Centre (SAC). Reporting to the Food Services Coordinator, this position will be responsible for:

  • Preparing a variety of foods for the Food Services area and catering orders in conformance with the health regulations, safe practices and established standards;
  • coordinating, leading, motivating and mentoring volunteers in serving and preparation of food and cleaning duties;
  • playing a key leadership and high functioning team player role with the kitchen staff team
  • helping with the receiving of orders and inventory control; and,
  • performing related works as required.  

The preferred candidates will possess: working knowledge of food products and methods used in preparing and serving meals, fresh baked goods, take-out options and catering orders; working knowledge of health and safety procedures in food  and baking preparation and service; knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils, and the care of these items; excellent communication, time management and organizational skills; ability to work effectively and proactively with  volunteers, staff and the public; ability to take direction and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a larger team.

The ideal candidates will have completed college cooking related courses, possess a current certificate for Provincial Food Safe I, and have related work experience. Candidates should be available to work weekday day shifts, Tuesday and Thursday afternoon/evening shifts and weekend day shifts.

The successful candidates will be required to supply an acceptable police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Position Status:
Union (WVMEA) – Casual

Hours of Work:
Up to 20 hours per week. Hours and days of work may vary and will include weekend and/or early morning or evening hours.

Starting Rate of Pay:
$25.94 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits.
This position has a pay structure with five steps which increases based on hours worked.
