Spend your summer outside or in our youth centres making a difference in children’s lives! A Program Leader I with Saanich Parks, Recreation & Community Services has the opportunity to challenge and develop their leadership skills, grow and learn through excellent training, create friendships, positively impact young lives, and all the while earn an excellent wage. If you want to be a part of an amazing, supportive team, and you haven’t forgotten the value of play and fun, then this is the job for you!
 
This summer role includes the opportunity to lead and mentor Program Assistants, WYLD Leaders in our Youth Leadership Continuum.  Program Leaders for outdoor summer and youth camps will have the opportunity to be a part of a large working team.  to develop weekly camp plans, out trips and work cooperatively with participants, parents, and supervisors to ensure camp safety.
 
SNPP – Saanich Neighbourhood Playground Program Ages 5.5 – 9
SNPP Staff are passionate about engaging children in an outdoor setting. Successful candidates will be highly energetic, motivated, and independent. A strong knowledge of camp games and activities that will connect children to the outdoors in creative and fun ways. They will possess strong critical thinking and conflict resolution. Applicants should have ample experience speaking with parents and supervisors and be able to work independently with their camp team. Please note SNPP operates rain or shine - these are all weather outdoor camps!
 
Breakout Adventure Camp – Ages 9.5 – 12
Breakout Adventure staff are passionate about playing all the best games, bringing fun and up for any adventure. Staff should be comfortable taking youth on public transit and be experienced in out trips. Staff should have experience swimming with groups of kids. Staff must have experience working independently and speaking with parents and youth alike. This camp is perfect for staff who like to work with kids ages 9.5 – 12 but still want all the aspects of a jam-packed fun summer camp. These camps are based out of our youth centers. Successful candidates will be highly energetic, motivated, and independent.
 
Urban Adventures – Ages 12.5 -15
Urban Adventure staff are comfortable working with youth. They understand the issues and trends of today’s world that youth are facing. They are interested in providing unique summer opportunities for youth. Staff are experienced in taking large groups of youth on public transit and to a variety of out trip locations such as axe throwing, flying squirrel, mini golf, the beach and much more. Staff are confident in critical thinking and problem solving. They have experience working independently and speaking with parents and youth alike.
 
Requirements include completion of Grade 10; three months experience working with participants in a recreational or instructional setting; satisfactory police information check, Emergency First-Aid and CPR-C, and for some camps a BC Class 4 Driver’s Licence, is required.  The ideal candidates will have the ability to be inclusive and flexible to ensure a positive environment is created for all participants; demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain a high degree of enthusiasm and personal motivation.  Experience working with people with behavioural or cognitive difficulties is an asset.
 
Applicants must provide proof of completion of Grade 10 and current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C at time of interview.
 
This is a C.U.P.E.
