We have an exciting opportunity within our CAO’s office as a Policy and Strategic Initiatives Coordinator! Reporting to the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, this position performs a variety of policy and specialized administrative work related to the identification, evaluation, and implementation of the City’s strategic initiatives. In this role you will demonstrate sound judgement and considerable knowledge of the City’s processes, procedures and practices, communicate with internal and external stakeholders to share information, clarify details and answer questions.

This position participates in committees, working groups and task forces to advance strategic initiatives and activities; leads the Administrative working group for departmental administrative staff to ensure cross-sharing of information, consistency across departments and to ensure collaboration on various city initiatives; identifies opportunities and projects with external stakeholders and serves as the City Liaison with the institutions; liaises and collaborates with municipal partners and community organizations as necessary on issues of common interests; assists project managers with city wide initiatives, budgeting, oversight and analysis on various projects; disseminates information on behalf of the Office of the CAO related to city initiatives. Assists with researching, and implementing strategies, including policies and procedures, related to City initiatives; prepares written reports as required and assists in the preparation of Council and Committee related reports; revises, updates, and prepares policy documents and corporate guidelines under the direction of the office; supports the development, coordination, and execution of organizational events and arranges supporting materials including arranging and booking venues, creating programs and menus, maintaining lists of attendees and schedule, providing day of event and onsite coordination and ensuring timelines are followed. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study and five years of related experience in project management or supervision, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The role requires considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation; of departmental rules, regulations, policies, practices and procedures. This role requires the ability to oversee, coordinate and lead working groups and projects; establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, agencies, associations, groups, patrons and the public; communicate effectively orally and in writing; coordinate, lead, supervise and motivate the work of staff; prepare and write clear and concise reports and correspondence using applicable software applications. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
