The District of Wells thrives due to the development of local mining, tourism and art and the interest that supports these activities. The primary mining company in the area is continuing development and the District is interested in seeing whether a boundary expansion to include future development and associated blocks would be in the best interests of the municipality. As well, there is ongoing development of tourism and outdoor recreation and the District wishes to ensure that it has addressed all possible avenues for full potential and benefit to the District and surrounding area.

It is the intent of the District to engage in a feasibility and boundary expansion extension process to determine the pros and cons of extending the municipal boundaries. While expanding the municipality may be beneficial from a property tax perspective it may be subject to other costs such as road access maintenance or fire fighting service coverage. Having a thorough analysis prepared that addresses such issues will help provide Council with the tools it needs to make an informed decision regarding boundary expansion.
