CUPE 900 and the City of Kamloops Ratify 5-Year Contract

City of Kamloops and CUPE 900

KAMLOOPS - The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 900 and the City of Kamloops are pleased to announce the ratification of a new 5-year collective agreement. The terms of the agreement include several housekeeping changes as well as wage adjustments of 2.5% in the first year, 2.25% in the second year and 2% in each of the remaining years of the agreement.

“I am very pleased about the way negotiations have led to a successful and long-term contract. Council wants to thank both CUPE and management staff for resolving issues for the benefit of both parties, and for the citizens of Kamloops,” said Mayor Christian.

This agreement builds on previous collaboration during which the Union and the City worked on identifying issues prior to beginning collective bargaining to find other efficiencies and cost-savings which are already included in the 2019-2023 financial plan.

In addition to wage adjustments, the new collective agreement includes a number of wording changes to clarify terms and provisions that will assist both parties in better interpreting the agreement. These changes will produce more efficient operations by reducing costs related to disagreements and disputes between the parties.

“Both the Union and the City have worked collaboratively for an agreement that is fair to workers, is in line with inflation, and protects the services citizens count on,” said Carmen Sullivan, President of CUPE Local 900. “This agreement builds on improved cooperation between the parties, which this year helped realize savings by keeping work in-house.”
