Port Alberni Receives Financial Reporting Award for Twenty-Third Consecutive Year

PORT ALBERNI - For the 23rd consecutive year, the City of Port Alberni’s Finance Department has been recognized with the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). 

Mayor Mike Ruttan announced the honour at the February 27th City Council meeting, recognizing the City’s financial staff for their excellence in government accounting and financial reporting.

The award was received for the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2015.  By meeting North American best practices for financial reporting, the award demonstrates the City’s commitment to the highest level of transparency and disclosure.

"We take pride in ensuring that our financial information is clearly articulated and easily accessible," said Mayor Mike Ruttan. "The commitment of City staff to these high standards exemplifies their dedication to openness and good governance."

The GFOA is a non-profit association made up of nearly 19,000 government finance professionals whose aim is to enhance and promote the professional management of governments by identifying and developing financial policies and practices, and promoting them through education, training and leadership.
