Job Description
Our Engineering & Public Works Department is seeking a self-motivated, analytical and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Engineering Technologist 1 – Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Employees in this position perform a wide variety of customer service, administrative and technical engineering functions related to the AMI system, with a specific focus on data compilation, analyses and follow up activities.

The work also involves maintaining the water meter database, using and managing AMI software, and analyzing data and compiling studies and reports utilizing data from GIS and AMI software related databases. You will also be responsible for responding to internal and external inquiries and complaints and provide technical information, advice and assistance to the public, other departments, government agencies, developers, engineers, contractors, utility companies, and surveyors relating to water utilization, water meter infrastructure and billing. The incumbent may be required to acts as City representative at various internal and external meetings and open houses.

We are seeking an experienced technologist who can:

  • Assist in the development of engineering standards and specifications related to water metering and consumption and recommend updates to the Development Bylaw and other related bylaws to reflect best and current practices.
  • Assist in the development, review, and modification of maintenance and operating programs related to AMI.
  • Prepare and maintain records, statistics, reports, and correspondence utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, and other software and respond to internal and external enquiries.
  • Perform a variety of engineering computations and tabulations and interpret a variety of technical data and information.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts;
  • Prepare and deliver effective written and oral presentations to council and public groups.


Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:

  • a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a recognized academic equivalent from a technical institute or college
  • minimum 3 years’ experience in a civil and/or municipal engineering environment or recognized equivalent
  • the ability to attain membership, or eligibility for membership, with a relevant professional organization such as the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Association of BC (ASTTBC) within two years
  • a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License


Having your EOCP BC Water Distribution Operator Level 1 would be an asset.

Additional Information
The 2024 rate of pay for this CUPE position is $51.29 per hour plus full benefits, including pension, upon completion of probation.  

The hours of work for this position are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm from Monday to Friday working a nine-day fortnight (one extra day off every two weeks).
