Finance Clerk

The Finance Clerk is a full-time, unionized position responsible for performing accounting and clerical duties related to preparing and analyzing payroll for all Department employees, purchasing, accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Main Duties:

  • Maintains records for every employee pertaining to all matters of payroll related correspondence
  • Verifies information entered into the scheduling and payroll systems to ensure accuracy prior to completion of each pay period, and perform data adjustments as necessary
  • Creates and distributes payroll information and reports as required
  • Prepares and facilitates purchase orders, following up with internal customers and vendors as required
  • Processes accounts receivable billings for cost recovery and follows up as necessary
  • Prepares accounting related reports or charts and assists in special reporting projects
  • Reviews various expense reimbursement requests for conformity to policies and procedures
  • Provides support to staff for issues related to scheduling or accounting software system


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years related accounting, payroll and/or purchasing experience in a complex computerized systems environment
  • Diploma in Accounting or Finance (2 years/60 credits) from an accredited post-secondary institution, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Knowledge of accounting practices, procedures and methods as well as statistical and analytical principles
  • Thorough knowledge of and proficiency in MS Office, spreadsheets, databases and financial software
  • Prepares accurate and detailed reports
  • Performs duties with a high degree of accuracy, timeliness, efficiency and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral, in order to be effective in requesting or delivering information
  • Applies logic and sound judgment in prioritizing workload and multi-tasking

 
Hourly rate ranges from $32.82- $36.25 with 35 hours per work week. Applicants will be interviewed in order to assess the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the position. The successful candidate must obtain and maintain an enhanced security clearance, which includes a polygraph test.
