About You / What We Are Looking For

The City of Coquitlam is excited to recruit for self-motivated and skilled Landscape Construction Workers to join our Park Infrastructure team in the Parks Recreation Culture and Facilities department. The successful incumbent will apply their versatile, high level skills to a wide range of park capital improvement projects. You will perform, hardscape construction including concrete block/wood retaining walls, pavers, fencing, and minor formwork. The incumbent will also apply their expertise to civil works such as rough and final site grading, the installation of sub- base and drainage systems for lawn and hard surface areas and pathways and the installation of irrigation systems. You will also be responsible for returning disturbed areas to their original condition with horticulture and turf installation. The Landscape Construction Worker can further utilize their communication skills by meeting with the public, and answering a variety of questions relating to their work. They may occasionally act as a Crew Lead or Site Coordinator as required. This position will require the experience in equipment operations including a mini excavator, skid steer and truck and trailer heavy hauling.
 
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who possesses the ability to work with a high level of independence and exercise judgment in the role. Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Grade 12
  • Technical courses in irrigation systems maintenance related to the work, along with 3 to 5 years of experience in civil and landscape construction.
  • Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
  • A.W.W.A. Cross Connection Control Certificate. Please note that candidate with a valid AWWA Cross Connection Control Certificate will be considered first, however, we welcome applications from those without certification on the basis they obtain successful certification within their probationary period. Any costs or time required for certificate will be at the candidates’ own expense.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A Red Seal Landscape Horticulturalist would be an asset.
  • A Class 3 or Heavy Hauler Certification would be an asset.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $40.85.
