Strathcona Regional District is recruiting for an Indigenous Engagement Coordinator (Emergency Services) for a term position ending December 31, 2026. The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Indigenous engagement requirements under the Emergency & Disaster Management Act (EDMA) and supporting intended outcomes including:

  • Relationship building across jurisdictions through consultation and cooperation with Indigenous governing bodies
  • Incorporating Indigenous knowledge and cultural safety across emergency management practices
  • Respecting of the inherent rights of Indigenous Peoples
  • Enhancing emergency management outcomes for the safety of all
  • Providing policy improvements that reflect the lived experience of Indigenous peoples and address the disproportionate impacts on Indigenous Peoples during emergency events.


REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (or equivalent combination)

  • Post-secondary diploma in Indigenous Studies, Emergency Management, or a related field of study
  • Minimum 3 years related experience in community development, emergency management or Indigenous engagement
  • Knowledge and experience with local Indigenous culture and communities in the SRD.


REQUIRED LICENCES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license

 
The position is 35 hours per week with an hourly pay rate of $41.66 to $47.84 plus an additional 16% in lieu of benefits and vacation. The SRD has applied to the BC Office of the Human Rights Commissioner for approval to preferentially hire a person who self-identifies as Indigenous for this position.
