2018 CAMA Conference Open for Registration – Early Bird Rate to April 1st, 2018
Registrations are now being accepted for CAMA's 47th Annual Conference being held in Fredericton, New Brunswick from May 28-30, 2018 at the Fredericton Convention Centre. This year’s theme is “Maximizing Opportunity – Mitigating Risk”.
This year CAMA is pleased to partner with the Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM) to provide you with the opportunity to attend a 1-Day Infrastructure Asset Management Awareness and Education Workshop, immediately before the Conference on Sunday, May 27th, 2018. Please keep this additional professional development opportunity in mind when booking your hotel accommodations. The Golf Tournament and other Pre-Conference activities will begin on Monday morning with the Conference Program ending after the President’s Dinner on Wednesday evening.

TRANSPORTATION
The Greater Fredericton Airport, serviced by Air Canada, West Jet and Porter receives multiple direct daily flights: Toronto (7), Ottawa (2), Montreal (3) and Halifax (4). Toronto is the major hub connecting Fredericton to the rest of the world. The airport is 14 kms (a 15 minute drive) to downtown Fredericton with a taxi fare of approximately $25.00.
The City of Fredericton is pleased to provide Conference attendees with complimentary shuttle service during the peaks flight times on Sunday, May 27th, 2018 from the Fredericton Airport to the Conference hotels. This service will correspond with flights coming in from Toronto, Montreal and Halifax departing the airport at the following times (approximately 20 to 30 minutes after the flight lands):

- Arrival times may change and therefore the bus departure times will be adjusted and attendees will be notified in the communication that is circulated one week prior to the Conference.
- The shuttle will stop at each Conference hotel (Hilton Garden Inn, Crowne Plaza, Delta Hotel and the Hampton Inn & Suites). There is limited seating availability on the motorcoach (56 seats), first come – first served. No booking is required.
REGISTRATION FEES
Register for the Conference by April 1st, 2018 and you will receive the Early Bird Rate.
Please note that CAMA members who are attending their first CAMA Conference are eligible for a $150.00 discount off the registration fee. If you would like some of your senior managers to attend the Conference and they are not CAMA members they can sign up for $137.50 (50% off the first year) and also attend the Conference for $525.00 as a First Time Delegate.

Companions Registration
- Full Companion Program: If you would like to sign up for the full Companion Program (includes the Opening Reception, Opening and Closing Keynote Speakers, Casual Night Out, President’s Dinner, and Hospitality Suites) use the options provided under the first green box. If you would also like to sign up for some of the Pre-Conference activities, study tours and additional companion activities click "Pre-Conference & Study Tours Only - No Partner Program) and proceed to the second and third green boxes.
- Participation in Pre-Conference Activities, Study Tours and Additional Companion Tours: If you do not wish to sign up for the full Companion Program but would like to participate in some of the Pre-Conference activities, study tours, additional companion tours, Casual Night Out and President’s Dinner, go directly to the second, third and fourth green boxes.
- Extra Tickets to Casual Night Out and President’s Dinner: If you would like to participate in just the Casual Night Out and/or President’s Dinner go directly to the fourth green box.
Golf Registration
If your companion would like to play golf, please complete a separate golf registration form using the same rate that you registered under (i.e. if you are a CAMA member your companion would also receive the member rate). Golf club rentals will be available for $30.00 (plus HST). Clubs must be reserved and paid for on the online registration form.
HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS
CAMA has secured a block of rooms at four hotels however the Hilton Garden Inn (connected to the Convention Centre), the Crowne Plaza Hotel (located directly across the street from the Convention Centre), and the Delta Fredericton Hotel (overflow hotel) are SOLD OUT. Delegates are welcome to check these hotels for cancellations and to be put on a wait list (see contact details below).
All three hotels (Hilton, Crowne and Delta) are offering the same special Conference rate:

**Please note that the above rate is subject to 15% applicable taxes. There will be a $10.00 charge for an additional person beyond double occupancy.
A deposit equal to the first night's stay will be charged at the time of booking. If the reservation is cancelled by April 26th, 2018 the deposit will be refunded. If it is cancelled after April 26th, 2018 the first night’s deposit will be forfeited.
Additional Uptown Conference Hotel – Rooms Still Available
An additional room block has been secured at the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Fredericton located in the uptown region (470 Bishop Drive) for $165.00 + tax/night. A shuttle service will also be provided during the peak periods. FCM CONFERENCE AND TRADESHOW
CAMA delegates will be provided complimentary access (with their CAMA Conference name badge) to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Trade Show being held on Thursday, May 31st, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the official Trade Show Opening and Cocktail Reception and on Friday, June 1st, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at the new Halifax Convention Centre, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The FCM Conference will be held from May 31-June 3, 2018 with over 1,500 municipal leaders coming together to discuss key issues and challenges their communities are facing. Post CAMA - Municipal Government Forum and Study Tour of Greater Moncton
Mark your calendar for the Post CAMA - Municipal Government Forum and Study Tour being held in Moncton on May 31st, 2018. CAMA members Marc Landry and Don MacLellan from the City of Moncton, Marc Melanson from the City of Dieppe and Colin Smith from the Town of Riverview, are looking forward to hosting you.
Following the CAMA Conference or on route to the FCM Conference in Halifax, squeeze in an extra day of information sharing and engaging discussion with yours peers on a variety of relevant topics. Bernard Lord, past Premier of New Brunswick and Chief Executive Officer of Medavie will be our guest speaker at lunch. This is a great professional development opportunity allowing attendees to collaborate and learn from their peers. To ensure an engaging forum experience and to maximize the discussion with your peers, we are capping the registration to 50 attendees so book your seat early to avoid disappointment!
Moncton is a short 2 hour - 180 km drive from Fredericton. Carpooling from Fredericton is encouraged. Names of drivers will be posted at the CAMA Conference if you are interested in this transportation mode.

CAMA's CAO Performance Evaluation Toolkit With Step by Step Webinar
We hope that you have had an opportunity to use CAMA’s three-step CAO Performance Evaluation Toolkit.
Our toolkit has a lot of gears and options that might, at first glance, make it appear to be dauntingly complicated. It’s not! It’s really a simple tool. CAMA is pleased to provide you with a webinar (approximately 20 minutes in length) that is designed to show you just how easy it is to use and how it can be customized and scaled to your municipality.
CAMA’s Toolkit is designed to be a system that is flexible for the CAO, Mayor and Council. It’s a tool that lets you construct an evaluation process based on what works for you and your organization. It offers a variety of ways to choose goals, set competencies, conduct your self-assessment, and have ongoing performance evaluation conversations. For CAOs, the toolkit provides a process that uses strategies and templates that can be shared with the Mayor and Council to ensure goals, key results, core competencies, and performance measures are mutually understood. For Mayor and Council, the Toolkit underscores the value of CAO performance conversations, and offers a process for conducting the performance evaluations fairly.
The Marketing Campaign for the CAO Performance Evaluation Toolkit, including a series of presentations to the elected officials, has begun and will continue for the next year across the country. Your Board member will let you know when it is being presented to your elected officials in your area. We also look forward to receiving your feedback over the next year as you begin to use the toolkit in your own community.

Queensland Local Government Invites Canadian Local Government Managers to Participate in a Manager Exchange
In 2018, Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) in cooperation with CAMA invites a Canadian local government manager to nominate to participate in an exchange.
LGMA and CAMA will each select a senior local government officer to host their counterpart in their local communities and vice versa.
The Canadian Manager will visit Queensland, Australia, and attend the LGMA Annual Conference held from September 11-13, 2018 on the stunning Sunshine Coast. The weather is mild that time of year (by Australian standards) and the coast is serene and pristine. They will also spend a week with the host in the host’s home town (which could be a large city council, a mining community, a rural community, a tourist destination or a remote shire), staying in their home and participating in daily life. During this time, they will have the opportunity to visit the Council and learn about Queensland local government; policies, practices, innovations and challenges. This visit will be tailored to the managers own areas of interest to ensure maximized learning.
In return, the Canadian Manager will host the Australian Manager when they visit Canada to attend the CAMA Conference from Mary 28-30, 2018 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. They will spend a week, either immediately before or immediately after the Conference, hosted in the home and participating in daily life as described above.
This program is a unique opportunity to learn about local government and broaden knowledge of different approaches that have been applied. The Exchange has been running successfully between Australia, California and New Zealand for over a decade and the learnings during that time have been significant. Exchangees have brought back to their countries new ideas and suggestions. At the same time, they have formed life-long friendships, often returning to visit.
The Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) will provide a complimentary registration to their Conference in September 2018. All other travel costs (airfare, hotel, etc.) are your responsibility.

Edmonton's Community Energy Transition Strategy
Edmonton’s Community Energy Transition Strategy is a comprehensive framework for reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, increasing energy efficiency and promoting resilient energy systems. The strategy is about actively participating in the global movement for a low-carbon economy.
Edmonton plays an important role in Alberta’s resource industries. The city is also working towards an energy sustainable future. These two paths may seem at odds, but they reflect pragmatic thinking.
The strategy is the first step of a multi-decade, multi-step journey. It has three main parts:
• Diagnosis of energy and climate challenges/risks along with related opportunities.
• Twelve strategic courses of action to address challenges and opportunities that will be applied in coming decades.
• An 8-Year Action Plan that establishes the first steps (from 2014-2017) and signals next steps (from 2018-2021) of Edmonton’s energy transition journey.
This strategy moves Edmonton closer to an energy sustainable future.

City of Mississauga Town Hall Challenge
The Town Hall Challenge, a project under Mayors’ Megawatt Challenge, was conducted from 2012-2015, with municipalities across Canada invited to work towards a target energy consumption of 20 equivalent kilowatt-hours per square foot per year by 2015. Overall, 42 City Halls participated in the Challenge. In order to compare the different town halls, their energy use was normalized for different energy sources, space types and special equipment to allow comparison with the target, energy analysis and benchmarking.
City of Mississauga Town Hall reached the target of 20ekWh/ft2/year in 2013, and by 2015 the total energy intensity was further reduced to 17.2 ekWh/ft2/year. Mississauga’s Civic Centre was declared the ‘winner’ of the Town Hall Challenge in 2016 and the gold winner of 2015 Living City Energy Efficiency Leadership Award.
Mississauga’s energy management team used interval metering, sub-meter and data loggers to identify and dig deeper into identified areas of opportunity for energy efficiency. Efficiencies were then achieved from improving and optimizing operation; many capital upgrades; and employing a team approach by engaging in a number of energy awareness initiatives.
