2016 CAMA E-Brief Partner:

Dear Colleagues:

I am inviting you to nominate one or more of your colleagues in this unique field of municipal administration for an Honourary Life Membership in CAMA.  This honour is presented to long serving CAMA members during the President’s Dinner at the Annual Conference to individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to the field of municipal administration and to the work of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA).  Previous recipients of the award include:  John Robison, Cy Armstrong, the late Robert Byron, Wes Lancaster, Murray MacLean, Paul Stapleton, Richard White, Bob Linner, Doug Lagore, Gerard Lewis, Cecil Vincent, Jim Toye and Doug Lychak.

The criiteria for the award, a description of the eligibility and nomination process and the application form can be found on the CAMA website.  Please note that nominees will be considered based on the following criteria:

• length of time served in local government as a CAO or direct report to a CAO;
• membership in CAMA for a period of at least ten (10) years;
• recognition as making a significant contribution to CAMA;
• recognition as making a significant contribution to their community;
• recognition as making an outstanding contribution to local government; administration within the professional community at the local, regional, provincial or national level.

The deadline for receipt at the CAMA National Office is February 26th, 2016.  Please do take the time to reflect on potential candidates and submit a nomination.  There is nothing more meaningful to a professional than to be recognized by one’s peers for a job well done.  Over the years there are many individuals who have made a difference within our profession, our organization and in the community.

Cette marque de reconnaissance est décernée aux membres de longue date ayant contribué de façon exceptionnelle à l’essor du domaine et de l’ACAM; elle est remise à l’occasion du Souper du président dans le cadre de la conférence annuelle. Vous avez jusqu’au 26 février 2016 pour faire parvenir votre dossier au bureau national de l’ACAM.  Je vous invite à prendre le temps de réfléchir à des candidates et candidats potentiels que vous pourriez présenter.  À bien y penser, il n’y a rien de plus gratifiant pour un professionnel qu’être reconnu par ses pairs pour un travail bien accompli. Au fil des années, bon nombre de personnes ont fait une différence dans notre profession, notre organisation et la communauté en général.

The CAMA membership renewal invoices for the April 1st, 2016 to March 31st, 2017 year were mailed out last week and are due by March 31st, 2016.   You can renew your membership online by Visa or Mastercard using your CAMA ID number (noted on your invoice) at http://www.civicinfo.bc.ca/cama/membership.asp or by sending a cheque to the CAMA National Office.  We look forward to your continued membership with CAMA!

Celebrate the profession by nominating a colleague, your community,
or yourself for a 2016 Local Government Excellence Award.

Each year, ICMA recognizes outstanding contributions to the local government management profession through the Local Government Excellence Awards Program. This is an opportunity for both local government professionals and local governments to receive recognition.
Awards are presented to individuals for:

ICMA’s Local Government Excellence Awards Program also recognizes outstanding local government programs in the areas of community health and safety, community partnerships, community sustainability, and strategic leadership and governance. Nominations are accepted from both U.S. and International Jurisdictions. Students are encouraged to nominate a professor for the Academic Award.

New this Year: Submit Your Nomination Online!
For the first time ever, nominations may be submitted online making it easier to nominate a colleague or outstanding program for a Local Government Excellence Award. Please take a moment to consider which of your colleagues has made a significant difference in their community or to the profession; or has your community implemented an innovative or successful program you would like to nominate? Nominations for Local Government Excellence Awards will be accepted through March 9, 2016.

Award recipients will be recognized during ICMA’s 102nd Annual Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, September 25-28, 2016, and highlighted in a fall issue of ICMA’s PM Magazine. Each year CAMA recognizes its membership through the Excellence in Municipal Administration Awards Program, and this year I have the honour and pleasure to Chair the Awards Committee.
 
As you will see the purpose and objectives of the awards program is to encourage the improvement of municipal management; to recognize the specific contributions achieved by members of the Association; and, to publicize these to other members as well as to the general public.
 
Experience has demonstrated that CAMA members have every right to hold their heads high when it comes to excellence in municipal management.  Year-after-year we see countless examples of outstanding projects and programs designed, developed and implemented in Canadian municipalities who are recognized world leaders in municipal governance and service delivery.
 
It is time again to share your achievements and successes with your colleagues; to recognize the excellent work of your employees; and to receive the recognition of your profession.  Please take a little time to select one or more of your projects or programs for nomination under the three award categories:  Environment, Willis Award for Innovation, and Professional Development. 
 
CAMA is pleased to offer a full on-line application package for this year’s nomination process.  Choose one of the following on-line nomination forms specific to your population category and follow the instructions outlined in the attached brochure:
 
Nomination Form for Municipalities with a Population Under 20,000
Nomination Form for Municipalities with a Population Between 20,001 and 100,000
Nomination Form for Municipalities with a Population Over 100,000
 
You may very well have the opportunity to stand in front of your colleagues on June 1^st at the 2016 CAMA Conference being held in Winnipeg, Manitoba and receive the recognition you so rightly deserve. 
 
Award winners will be asked to submit a high resolution logo, and fifteen to twenty photos of the project to be included in a video that will be shown at the luncheon.  Winners will also be recognized in CAMA’s e-Brief, press releases will be prepared and circulated to the local media, and the CAMA Board member closest to the successful community will also arrange to attend a Council meeting to make the award presentation to your Mayor and Council.  We also endeavour to highlight all nominations in e-Brief and our Best Practices Library in the Member’s Section of the CAMA website. 
 
The deadline for submissions (in electronic format only) is Friday, February 26^th, 2016.  I encourage you to participate and look forward to receiving your nomination(s).

Chaque année, l’ACAM reconnaît le mérite de ses membres au moyen des Prix d’excellence en administration municipale et, cette année, j’ai l’honneur et le plaisir de présider le Comité des prix.

Le programme des prix vise à encourager l’amélioration de l’art de l’administration municipale, à reconnaître les contributions particulières faites par des membres de l’association et à en faire état auprès des autres membres et du grand public.
 
L’expérience démontre que les membres de l’ACAM ont toutes les raisons d’être fiers de l’excellence de la gestion municipale. Chaque année, nous voyons d’innombrables exemples de projets et de programmes exceptionnels conçus, élaborés et mis en œuvre dans des municipalités canadiennes reconnues comme étant des chefs de file mondiaux en gestion municipale et en prestation de services.
 
Le moment est venu, encore une fois, de faire connaître à vos collègues vos réalisations et vos réussites, de reconnaître l’excellent travail de vos employés et de recevoir la reconnaissance de votre profession. Les lauréats seront aussi invités à soumettre un logo haute résolution et quinze à vingt photos du projet pour être inclus dans une vidéo qui sera présentée à la cérémonie de remise des prix. Leurs noms seront mentionnés dans le cyberbulletin de l’ACAM, des communiqués de presse seront rédigés et distribués aux médias locaux et le membre du conseil d’administration de l’ACAM qui vit le plus près de la communauté désignée assistera à une réunion du conseil municipal et remettra le prix au maire et aux conseillers municipaux. Nous nous efforçons aussi de présenter toutes les candidatures dans le cyberbulletin et dans les ressources sur les meilleures pratiques dans l’espace réservé aux membres du site internet de l’ACAM.
