Short Description:
The Township of Esquimalt, in partnership with PEERS Victoria Resource Society, Bridges for Women Society, and Community Micro Lending Society, successfully delivered a Small Business Training Program to a group of six vulnerable women who were either working in the sex industry or had left the sex industry. The Small Business Training Program entailed two weekly classroom sessions, bi-weekly individual business coaching meetings, workshops and special events. The program ran from October 2014 to April 2015 out of PEERS Victoria drop-in centre in Esquimalt’s Industrial Park. Project funding of $25,000 was made possible through the Civil Forfeiture Office in partnership with the Victim Services and Crime Prevention Division of the Ministry of Justice. Funding was used to hire a program facilitator as well as to provide participants with course materials and financial assistance to ensure each woman’s success in the program.
