Short Description:
Park Spark offers a different experience from standard task-focused volunteer programs.  Its vision is to engage residents from across the demographics of our rapidly-growing and increasingly-diverse community by offering a wide variety of park volunteer experiences that fit with busy contemporary lifestyles. These experiences, often led by local businesses, schools or service clubs, can be permanent or ephemeral, ranging from making music together, to chalk art, to a new floral display.   In just a short time, Park Spark has demonstrated success. Since June 2014, nine Park Spark events have been held with over 700 volunteers. For Remembrance Day, over 350 large poppies were painted on the grass near Coquitlam’s cenotaph. At Christmas, more than 850 tulip lights were created from pop bottles and installed in the City’s seasonal lights display and more than 550 people broke the world record of singing Jingle Bells together in Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park.
