Short Description:
In July, 2012 Vancouver City Council adopted a comprehensive Climate Change Adaptation Strategy to ensure that Vancouver remains liveable and resilient in the face of climate change.
The landmark strategy recommends nine primary actions and over 50 supporting actions that the City of Vancouver can take to incorporate climate change adaptation measures into new projects and daily operations for all City business.  These actions will guide the way we build and maintain  streets, sewers, building infrastructure, parks and greenspaces to  safeguard the City against the impacts of climate change.
Since 2012, the CIty has developed an Urban Forest Strategy and Rainwater Management Plan with an adaptation lens; the minimum elevation for buildings has been increased in flood prone areas; and combined mapping of surface air temperature, canopy cover and a heat health vulnerability index is supporting identification of priority areas for tree planting and other cooling measures.
