The handbook provides guidance on developing a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) to improve community biodiversity, sustainability and resilience. Examples of practices, tools and actions for biodiversity planning and management are provided. A five milestone approach is taken that starts with building a biodiversity team (initiate), includes a determination of the current state of biodiversity through a biodiversity assessment (assess), moves to the development of the BAP (plan), and ends with actions to implement the plan (implement) and verify implementation and outcomes (monitor/review).  It offers a list of outputs per milestone that can be used as a checklist in moving forward in the development and implementation of a BAP.  Case studies are provided throughout the handbook. Overall, the handbook is a very comprehensive and easy to read document on how local government can plan for and enhance biodiversity.
