Fort St. John and BCGEU Ratify Agreement

City of Fort St. John
FORT ST. JOHN - The City of Fort St. John and the BC Government Employees Union (BCGEU) have ratified a 3-year agreement.

The current collective agreement between the BCGEU and the City expired on December 31, 2020, and the two negotiation committees began negotiations earlier this fall.

City employees agreed to an increase of 2% effective January 1 of each year of the agreement, along with some improvements to benefits.

Mayor Lori Ackerman stated, “Communities need certainty, and Council is pleased that an agreement was reached that provides that and recognizes our dedicated and hardworking employees for the next three years. The Energetic City begins with City staff, and we know we are lucky to have them. Anyone interested in becoming a part of our team should connect with the postings on our website.”

“Settling an agreement during a pandemic was challenging, but these results show our strong relationship with the Union and is a win-win for both parties,” said Milo MacDonald, Chief Administrative Officer.

“This is a good agreement for our City and our valued employees; both committees worked hard to achieve this result for their respective parties,” stated Rashid Hasan, Chief Human Resources Officer.

BCGEU’s Staff Representative, Angie Panoulias, said, “The Union is pleased with the results achieved, and thank the committees for their hard work.”
