McConnell Foundation
McConnell FoundationDescription
The McConnell Foundation dedicates itself to work in the following three focus areas, and all funding requests need to align with at least one of them:
Climate
Scope: Contribute to Canada’s transition to a net-zero carbon economy in a way that produces sustainable and equitable outcomes for all. For more detailed information visit this webpage.
Reconciliation
Scope: Advance a reconciliation economy where wealth and resources are equitably shared and sustainably stewarded for this generation and those yet to come, in relationship with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. For more detailed information visit this webpage.
Communities
Scope: Strengthen collective resilience among those affected by continuous stress and the repercussions of the pandemic while building inclusive communities that are more future ready. More detailed information forthcoming in the coming months.
We seek to advance community wellbeing and environmental sustainability at a generational scale.
Eligibility
Under the Income Tax Act, we can provide funding to “qualified Canadian donees” only. Generally this means federally registered charities* and municipalities.
There are exceptions. Sometimes we do make financial contributions to not-for-profits through a fiduciary (trustee) organization. If you would like to apply for support this way, please indicate so on your application.
* Note that not-for-profit organizations do not automatically receive charitable status, and many choose not to apply for it. For more information about becoming a registered charity, see the Canada Revenue Agency’s publications on this topic.
Funding
There is no pre-established limit. Funding typically spans two to three years for projects which have a national scope. Generally, we do not make short-term funding to local projects. To see projects we have supported in the past, visit our funding database.
