CMHC Affordable Housing Grants and Loans

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) facilitates the production of new affordable housing by providing grants, interest-free loans and mortgage loan insurance flexibilities to groups producing affordable housing without long-term federal subsidies.

The grants and interest-free loans are available for a wide variety of eligible expenses for affordable projects of any form or scope.

Eligible Projects:
Funds must be used to develop proposals for specific housing projects that will increase the stock of affordable housing in Canada by 5 or more units. There are no restrictions on tenure type, building form or intended residents. Projects can be new constructions or conversions from non-residential buildings to affordable housing.

CMHC’s Seed Funding provides financial assistance to cover some of the soft costs incurred in the proposal and development stage of an affordable housing project.

Who Can Apply:
Groups from the private, non-profit and public sectors (including municipalities) producing affordable housing without long-term federal subsidies

How to Apply:

3. Complete and submit the form, which is evaluated locally by the representative responsible for your community,

When is the Application Deadline:
Applications are received year round. CMHC helps Canadians in need access affordable housing, and is committed to finding new and flexible ways to maximize the impact of our resources.
