The Transit Department is looking for a team-oriented individual to join their maintenance team as a Permanent Full-Time Tire Person/Utility Worker. This position will be responsible for checking and maintaining tire inventories; proper tire condition and tread depths; dismounting and mounting tires on one piece aluminum and steel disc wheels; and reporting irregularities. This position is also responsible for general building and grounds maintenance and may also be required to relieve Service Technicians in their absence.

The key accountabilities for this position include:
  • Contacting the tire supplier on a weekly basis for pick-ups and delivery;
  • Steam cleaning wheels as needed;
  • Pickup up and delivering parts from suppliers;
  • Performing major interior cleaning of buses when required;
  • Pre-tripping buses and performing bus changes as required;
  • Checking fluids, fueling vehicles, and washing service-support vehicles weekly;
  • Assisting mechanics as necessary;
  • Performing yard maintenance (pressure cleaning, sweeping, etc);
  • Securing service vehicles and buildings by setting TYCO alarms and securing perimeter gates;
  • Servicing buses, as operationally required;
  • Performing building maintenance (minor plumbing/electrical related repairs and housekeeping)
  •  General duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have completed a recognized Wheel Installers Course with Certificate; at least two years’ experience in fleet tire and wheel removal and repair; ability to operate a forklift in a safe and efficient manner knowledge of and ability to use a high speed balancer; a valid BC Class 2 Drivers Licence with Air Brake Endorsement; Grade 12 High School Diploma; and knowledge of operations within a fleet department. Trades training or certification in a related field will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate is required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check at their own expense. All District employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of hire.

ATU Local 134 (Union) – Permanent Full-time

Hours of Work:
40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Rate of Pay:
$39.63 per hour
