Interested in using your mechanical know-how to help the Burnaby RCMP? We’re looking for dedicated individuals with skills in car maintenance and repair to join our team as Transport Assistants. You’re a Jack or Jill of all trades who’s enthusiastic and knowledgeable about cars and how they work. You can identify mechanical issues and report them clearly to members of the RCMP. As our team will rely on your advice, you should be honest with a strong sense of integrity. Your responsibilities include operating automobiles, vans, and police radios; checking servicing and repair work of RCMP vehicles; determining the general nature of mechanical problems; performing minor repair tasks; maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external contacts; following verbal and written instructions; and maintaining simple files and records. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation, preferably including or supplemented by courses related to the work plus sound experience in operating passenger vehicles and some experience in automotive repair or service work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You know the rules of safely operating and the precautions necessary to avoid accidents in driving passenger vehicles. You have sound knowledge of district streets and traffic routes, as well as the RCMP’s policies, practices and procedures related to your work. You understand how combustion engines and automotive equipment works, can operate vehicle and police radios, and can check servicing and repair work to ensure the work has been completed properly. You also understand how to use and care for tools and equipment used in your work. Class 5 Valid BC Driver’s license required. You must obtain and maintain an Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance as a condition of employment.
