Community Policing Assistant

Temporary Full-time (Up to 9 months)

We are currently in search of a Community Policing Assistant to join us for a 9-month temporary assignment! The Community Police Unit is comprised of many RCMP and municipal sections, i.e. Tri-City Speed Watch, Citizens’ Crime Watch, Victim Services, Auxiliary Constable Program, Youth Detail Section, etc. The successful incumbent will provide support to all sections, work with the Volunteers and assist the public. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys a wide variety of tasks inside and outside of the office.
This position is responsible for a variety of duties but not limited to the following: administrative work for the Community Policing Unit of the Coquitlam RCMP detachment; assisting with event organization and coordinating/participating in the event; recording minutes for meetings; creating correspondences and complex reports; working with program volunteers; and providing information and assistance to the public. Another significant responsibility will be creating and modifying short and long term staffing schedules for the Civilian Police Services department. Being able to quickly adapt to unexpected and changing circumstances will be key in this role.
The ideal candidate will minimally have completed grade 12 with a proficiency in MS Word and Excel as well as experience working in an administrative capacity OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. In addition, you should possess outstanding scheduling and communication skills to effectively deal with the public and other external contacts. The incumbent should also have the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast pace changing environment and make independent judgement calls. A valid driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia and an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance are required.
The City offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. This is a CUPE position and is compensated at $25.82 - $30.33 per hour (2020 CUPE rates).
