Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE
Manages the maintenance, outage planning and scheduling activities and the maintenance system support team ensuring the data integrity of the maintenance systems and reporting meet business requirements. Ensures optimal Bus and Vessel availability for operations. Works with Maintenance Management to identify staffing requirements and provide recommendations for improvements on planning and scheduling functions. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget process and oversees and validates variance explanations.
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  
Collaborates with business units to establish a vision, assess systems and processes, identify problems, inefficiencies and emerging needs, and assists in developing functional requirements for business solutions.
 
Performs a central strategic business solutions role, considering interdependencies and interactions between various business units. Continuously looks for improvements and or the potentially to realign functions to increase/improve responsiveness, reduce insularity, and strengthen communications between Fleet Business Support and other enterprise business units.
 
Maintains the integrity of the computerized maintenance management system by providing guidance for system administration functions
 
Optimizes the use of maintenance planning system to ensure efficient use of manpower at each facility
 
Oversees the scheduling of all planned work to ensure all equipment is inspected, repaired and overhauled in order to meet regulatory, life cycle and reliability criteria. Identifies variances and areas of concern to management for resolution. Recommends improvements to enhance maintenance planning efficiencies.
 
Coordinates the preparation of the workplan to ensure all inspections and maintenance work requirements are identified. Monitors the scheduling and completion of work and reports irregularities. Ensures communication of all workplan updates for all maintenance areas.
 
Reviews maintenance planning practices and procedures and recommends cost-effective changes or improvements to management, including performance indicators. Develops KPI’s
and monthly reports to track departmental objectives and performance.
 
Manages the work and provides technical guidance to the System Support Team and Garage/SeaBus/Overhaul Maintenance Planners. Identifies and escalates any work that is not meeting internal or regulatory requirements.
 
Assists in the preparation of the annual Maintenance budgets and budget forecast explanations. Generates reports for management to report performance against Work plans
 
Collaborates with other departments, prepares both short- and long-range maintenance plans. Provides input into projects that directly affect Maintenance Planning. Provides input on bus replacement and retirement schedules.
 
Provides input and recommendations to the Manager to support development of departmental goals and objectives.  
 
Manages reporting staff at various locations, including selection, motivation, development, coaching, managing performance, and all other people management practices.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
The competencies for this position would be acquired through completion of a diploma in Operations Management from a post-secondary institute of technology in addition to a Trades Qualification or a technical degree related to Maintenance.
 
Requires six (6) years of experience in progressively responsible positions working in a unionized environment related to maintenance planning, scheduling and implementing continuous process improvements and work standards. Requires experience in managing, planning, scheduling, and performance management of unionized employees.
 
Other Requirements:
Advanced knowledge of maintenance planning/scheduling principles, theories, concepts and practices and related software.
 
Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

Advanced teamwork and interpersonal skills, including negotiations and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Solid project management, leadership, development and team building skills to provide direction to reporting staff.
 
Solid computer skills in standard office tools, emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Word along with web-based systems and Enterprise Asset Management Systems.

Work Schedule
37.50 hours per week.

Rate of Pay
Salary starting from $89,390 per annum
