Main Purpose & Function 
The Engineering Assistant II (EA II) will perform duties related to the AutoCAD drafting and street lighting asset management. The EA II will be involved in developing CAD drawings and implementing VanMap updates. The position will also assist in maintaining GIS datasets as they pertain to life-cycle rehabilitation and maintenance programs. 
 
The EA II will be working closely with the Electrical Design team and Asset Management team. In addition to drafting functions, this position will assist to administer and organize in-field street lighting asset inventory and condition assessments including assessment of street light pole bases and poles, underground electrical junction boxes, conduits, service panels, luminaires, kiosks and any other electrical equipment as required. 

This position will be based out of National Works Yard. Work location may change as operationally required.
 
Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Produce Civil/Electrical AutoCAD drawings for various engineering deliverables (tender drawings, progress drawings, IFC drawings, Record drawings etc)
  • Developing and maintaining street lighting infrastructure data base including but not limited to Excel, Hansen, GIS, and Topobase;
  • Update VanMap and assist in maintaining the Street Lighting, Traffic signal and Communications data base
  • Working with TEOD clerical staff to manage and maintain work orders related to street lighting assets as required;
  • Updating electrical design record drawings in AutoCAD;
  • Working independently and with others to conduct site investigations related to street lighting infrastructure;
  • Prepare shopping carts, track materials and project related costs;
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented with diploma in Mechanical/Electrical and AutoCAD or GIS or an equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in AutoCAD drafting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Highly proficient in AutoCAD
  • Ability to create Civil/Electrical drawings including plan views, profiles, details and schematics.
  • Effective computer skills including GIS, Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Municipal CAD standards and street lighting design is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical street lighting and traffic signal terminology is preferred.
  • Asset management experience is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong ability to work with minimal supervision and able to exercise individual initiative.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of clerical tasks related to municipal engineering work.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Electrical/Mechanical and engineering aptitude.


Driver’s License and Record Checks

  • A current and valid BC Driver’s License is preferred.
