Bylaw Enforcement/ Animal Control Officer

The City of Port Coquitlam is accepting applications from enthusiastic, energetic and qualified individuals who are interested in one of two temporary part-time positions as Bylaw Enforcement/Animal Control Officers. The duration of the assignments is anticipated to be from May 15 to September 15, 2019.
The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks related to bylaw enforcement including inspectional, regulatory and enforcement patrol work ensuring compliance with Provincial statutes, Municipal by-laws and regulations, as well as assigned to the animal control function for the City, including: seizing, transporting and impounding stray animals; dealing with aggressive and dangerous dogs; and carrying out related tasks
Requirements include: the completion of Grade 12; Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative Skills Level I & II; course work in conflict resolution and business communications; possess a minimum of two years’ experience as a Bylaw Enforcement Officer including a minimum of one year experience in the past three years in the animal control function; or have an equivalent combination of training and experience. Additional consideration for candidates who have completed a certificate in Animal Control, or equivalent will be given. The successful candidate must possess sound knowledge of court procedures and municipal bylaws; effective communication and dispute resolution skills; the ability to deal with the public and staff in a courteous manner; solid computer skills and possess a BC Driver’s License.
This part-time position will require the candidate work shifts that fall outside of a normal work week and the candidate must be available to work evenings and weekends. The 2019 hourly rate of pay is $35.57 per hour and includes a comprehensive pro-rated benefit package upon successful completion of a probationary period. The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement.
