North Vancouver Recreation & Culture is dedicated to building healthy individuals, families and communities. We offer a wide range of recreation and cultural programs and services to residents of all ages. These positions offer the right person the opportunity to be part of an innovative staff team that makes a true difference in the lives of North Vancouver residents.

We are currently looking for Child Program Instructors for our After School Programs. The Program Leader will plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for school age children. The programs should ensure children are safe and engaged while promoting a positive, healthy environment. Programs are scheduled Monday to Friday during the times of 2:30-6:00 pm and starting as early as 1:30pm on some early dismissal days. Shift lengths and schedules vary but are generally approximately 3 hours in length. 

You are a team player committed to community. You are courteous and effective with the public and enjoy working with a diverse group of people. You must be able to prepare and lead a wide variety of programs and activities including sports, arts and crafts, games, supervised outdoor play and able to assist with homework. At times, you will lead programs to offsite locations and safely supervise children while taking transit for special outings.  The ability to understand and implement policies and procedures, as well as supervising, coaching and mentoring other leaders and volunteers is required.  You will also have strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and problem solving skills. In addition, you must be able to work effectively with children, and work closely and cooperatively with parents and facility staff, while providing safe, quality programs.

  • Experience working with children in a recreation centre is preferred
  • Courses in recreation, child and youth care OR a combination of instructional experience working with school aged children
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
  • High Five Certification (eight hour course through NVRC or other recreation facilities)

All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position.  All candidates must be prepared to work at any of our facilities.

HOURLY Rate:              
Based on training and experience plus 4% in lieu of benefits
