Reporting to the Trades Foreman 2, this is skilled trades work of a working supervisory nature involving the direction of a small group of skilled and semi-skilled subordinates engaged in applying specific trade skills to the mechanical trade. The Trades Foreman 1 is responsible for allocating, checking and reviewing the work performed by subordinates and may act for a supervisor, within defined limits, in the latter's absence. Oral and written assignments, which may be accompanied by plans and sketches, are received from a supervisor, who reviews work in terms of the effectiveness of supervisory assistance rendered and the attainment of desired results. Duties include planning, allocating, checking, reviewing and participating in the work of a group of skilled and semi-skilled subordinates engaged in trades work such as mechanical. The Trades Foreman 1 also requisitions supplies, parts and tools; reviews work records; prepares and maintains timesheets, records and reports. Assists a supervisor in planning, scheduling and estimating material and manpower requirements for projects; assists in developing and implementing work methods and may act for the supervisor, within defined limits, in the latter's absence. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of grade 12 supplemented by completion of a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification program, plus some experience at the journeyman level or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Requirements include all the knowledge, abilities and skills applicable to the Tradesman 2 work under supervision; the ability to plan, allocate, check and review the work of a group of subordinates engaged in skilled and semi-skilled trades work and to requisition supplies and to maintain and view records using the City’s electronic systems, as required, as well as some knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), SAP and Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Extensive truck and heavy equipment maintenance and repair experience is an asset. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
