Maple Ridge Parks, Recreation & Culture has auxiliary opportunities in an active and energetic environment.   We are currently recruiting for enthusiastic qualified Access Support Worker, Recreation Support Staff, Children’s Worker and Children’s Program Leader to join our team of professionals.   These positions are best suited to creative; self motivated individuals who enjoy working with children/youth in a dynamic fast paced environment.

We are looking for:

Access Support Worker – 19-035
You will provide support and assist in the integration of children with disabilities in half day and full day summer camps in our Parks and Recreation Programs.
Preference will be given to applicants that have:
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities and behavioral issues
  • Experience working in a recreation setting
  • Ability to adapt activities to meet the participants’ needs
  • Experience in providing personal care
  • Sign Language Level 1
  • Conflict Resolution Skill
  • NVCI or Mandt training
  • Providing personal care

Children’s Program Leader – 19-033
This is front-line recreation work performed in support of Children’s programs. You will participate in leadership and instruction of programs, summer camps and outdoor activities for children. The work is performed under close supervision and according to specific instructions. The will be expected to exercise tact and diplomacy in public contact but difficult and unusual situations are referred to a superior
Preference will be given to candidates that have:
  • High Five Certification
  • NCCP Certification
  • Fundamental Movement Skills Certification
  • NVCI or Mandt training
  • Crisis Intervention Certification

Children’s Worker – 19-034
This is front-line recreation work performed in support of children’s programs. An incumbent assists in planning, implementing and evaluating special events, programs, camps and outdoor activities. Provides leadership and instruction for various programs and activities; assists in leading volunteers
Preference will be given to candidates that have:
  • High Five Certification
  • Fundamental Movement Skills Certification
  • NCCP Certification
  • Crisis Intervention Certification

Recreation Support Staff – 19-032
This is front-line recreation work performed in support of programs and services. You will support staff engaged in leadership and instruction of specific programs, special events, summer camps and outdoor activities. You will require only a limited knowledge of the subject matter requiring minimal previous experience and/or specialized training. The work is performed under close supervision and according to specific instructions. You will be expected to exercise tact and diplomacy in public contact but difficult and unusual situations are referred to a superior.
Preference will be given to candidates that have:
  • High Five Certification
  • NCCP Certification
  • Fundamental Movement Skills Certification
  • Crisis Intervention Certification
  • NVCI or Mandt training

Access Leader – 19-041
This position will provide direct supervision and support, guidance, training and scheduling for a staff team, and will ensure that that the needs of participants are being met through adaptations and modification techniques

Education & Experience:
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by post secondary courses in Therapeutic Recreation or related field of study, plus some related work experience; or an equivalent combination of training and work experience, with sound supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience in understanding the developmental needs of individuals with disabilities and the ability to adapt and/or modify program objectives to meet the needs of registered participants, along with experience with training and supervision of a staff team.

In addition, the incumbent will have experience with scheduling and budgeting. Excellent problem solving skills, and experience with recreational activity planning

Licences & Certificates:
  • Standard First Aid including CPR C & AED
  • Submit to Criminal Record Check
  • Class 5 Drivers’ license

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities and or behavioral issues
  • Experience working in a recreation setting
  • Ability to adapt activities to meet the participants’ needs
  • Experience in providing personal care
  • Sign Language Level 1
  • Conflict Resolution Skills
  • NVCI or Mandt Training

Additional Information
Incumbents will be working approximately 10 hours per week in June, and 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday in July & August; and may be required to occasionally work evenings and weekends.

All of these positions require completion of Grade 12.  Current Standard Emergency First Aid and CPR including AED certificates and consent for disclosure of Police Information Check.  Some positions require additional certifications.
