We are looking for a regular full-time advanced and experienced professional to be a working supervisor for a small team in the Community Planning Department. You will be responsible for overseeing, directing, and guiding staff engaged in major policy and social planning projects and initiatives involving complex problems and often politically sensitive issues; and for ensuring that these conform to established plans and directives for appropriate and sustainable development in line with Council priorities. You will liaise and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders in carrying out major planning projects and other matters related to the work of the Community Planning Department including ongoing work on the District’s Official Community Plan and community engagement related to community planning, policy and social planning initiatives.

You have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices applicable to community planning in a municipal setting; considerable knowledge of economics, municipal finance, data analytics, and sociology, as applicable to municipal planning. Considerable knowledge of research methods, statistical techniques and trends, and developments in the field of municipal planning are required. You also have established experience planning, assigning, and supervising the work of a group of professional and technical subordinates, and providing advice and guidance on planning matters. Collaborative contribution to the Department’s planning initiatives is expected.
You have a university degree in an appropriate discipline and a post-graduate degree in community, social, or regional planning, plus considerable related professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A minimum of five years of professional planning experience is required. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners, and a BC Driver’s License are required. You have excellent project management and problem solving skills and solid computer knowledge.    

The pay range for this unionized position is $53.01 - $62.81 per hour (2019 rates) based on a 35-hour work week.
