Step into a leadership role where you will be responsible for the planning and execution of compliance and operational audits to improve the effectiveness of risk management, procedures, controls and governance processes; to ensure compliance with policies, standards, procedures, applicable laws and regulations, and; to ensure financial controls are in place and being adhered to. Working with the City’s Business Improvement Team, the incumbent will also be responsible for the auditing of city programs and operations to ensure overall corporate goals and objectives are being achieved. The successful candidate will interact with all departments across the organization and will present reports to the Senior Management Team.
Examples of key work activities include:
- Works independently from Management and is responsible for the internal audit process, including complex performance and operational audits.
- Delivers independent and professional objective assurance and advice to the Director and senior management team to improve performance and manage risk.
- Reviews and appraises the soundness, adequacy and effectiveness of financial and operational controls and identifies areas where risk is outside of acceptable levels and makes recommendations to the Senior Management Team to address concerns.
- Performs assurance and compliance engagements to evaluate and provide verification of compliance to regulations, standards and policies in addition to recommending improvements to established standards and policies.
Completion of a university degree in a related field supplemented by a minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in internal auditing or related work. A professional accounting designation is required (e.g., CPA, CA, CMA, CGA). Expert knowledge of financial and accounting principles, practices and procedures. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Experience working in a municipal setting is considered an asset.
