Water Treatment Supervisor


The City of West Kelowna is currently seeking to fill the management position of Water Treatment Supervisor, due to imminent retirement. Reporting to the Public Works Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the City’s existing Powers Creek Water Treatment plant as well as the future Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant. This position will provide leadership and supervisory oversight to the City of West Kelowna’s water treatment facilities, participate in upland watershed management, and contribute to other water utility functions within the Public Works Department. Other duties of the position include, but are not limited to, departmental planning, budgeting, project implementation, plant commissioning and human resource management. Equally important, the successful candidate will have great interpersonal skills in order to provide exceptional leadership, knowledgeable supervision, coaching and mentoring, and technical support to the City’s water treatment team.

The successful candidate will be an industry leader in the development and implementation of a variety of treatment systems, practices and procedures which will help to refine efficiencies and functionalities of the City’s treatment facilities. Furthermore, the successful candidate will ensure that work is conducted safely and in compliance with the City’s Occupational Health and Safety Program. This candidate will possess a minimum of 3 to 5 years of related supervisory experience; past work experience in a municipal treatment facility will be considered a strong asset. The successful candidate will be an exemplary motivator and team leader with superior public relations capabilities and communication skills.

Certificates of qualification, equivalent to EOCP Water Treatment Level IV or Waste Water Treatment Level IV, will be considered an asset. Additional courses, certificates and training related to this supervisory role will also be viewed as beneficial. Computer skills, including knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office Suite application, are also considered an asset.

As with all exempt positions at the City of West Kelowna, this position will be on call 24/7 and required to work outside regular hours as needed.
