The Utilities Group department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Process Supervisor. Reporting to the Utilities Group Manager, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting immediately for a 12 month period.

The WWTP Process Supervisor will supervise the operation of the municipal Wastewater Treatment and District Energy System (DES) plants. The WWTP Process Supervisor is responsible to coordinate a crew of operators and maintenance personnel, sub-contractors, and consultants to ensure the WWTP and DES plant operate within regulatory and operating permit requirements and municipal objectives, 24 hours per day and 365 days per year.

Qualified candidates will possess 5 years direct supervisory experience in a wastewater treatment or industrial process plant environment. A grade 12 diploma and an EOCP Environmental Operator Level III certification with the intent to obtain Level IV is preferred. If the EOCP certification has not been obtained, a combination of education in a Science, Engineering or Technology Diploma or Degree program and/or a certification in equipment common to industrial process plants with directly related experience may be considered. Candidates must have the proven ability to lead a team, troubleshoot and resolve process related problems and the strong ability to work effectively in urgent and emergency situations. An excellent working knowledge of biological nutrient removal (BNR) and other advanced wastewater treatment plant technologies is preferred.

The successful candidate demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and is analytical, process oriented and well organized with the strong ability to work well with little direct supervision. As well, the candidate will demonstrate an understanding of all regulations with respect to wastewater quality and treatment, including Occupational Health and Safety regulations and guidelines. The successful candidate can interact effectively, courteously and professionally with a variety of internal and external contacts and positively contribute to a teamwork environment.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory drivers abstract prior to beginning employment.
