The City of Nelson and Nelson Hydro are currently seeking to fill the position of OPERATIONS MANAGER As a member of the Management Team for Nelson Hydro, the Operations Manager will play a key role in the coordination of the operations crew activities and strategic direction of Nelson Hydro. Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for the overall operations, maintenance and safety of the Nelson Hydro Generation, Transmission & Distribution systems.  The Manager will demonstrate leadership skills that will assist the department in achieving safe and efficient utilization of staff and equipment and will be responsible for all technical aspects of the job as well as ongoing employee development (performance evaluations, training plans, hiring) as required.

  • Diploma in Electrical Power Technology or a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, including Professional Designation.
  • Five years recent related experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Eight years’ experience with an electric utility.
  • Maintains good customer, employee and public relations through effective written and oral communication.
  • Ability to deal with employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Excellent problem solving and technical skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to hold BC Safety Authority FSR for the utility.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and develop people and to build collaborative relationships.
