The City of Coquitlam is seeking a permanent full-time Building Inspector 2 to join their busy Building Permits division within the Planning & Development department. This inspectional and regulatory work involves monitoring of industrial, institutional, commercial and residential building construction, repair and alterations to ensure compliance with a variety of codes, standards and regulations. This position will be responsible for a wide variety of complex construction projects, requiring an individual to use considerable independence of judgment and action when interpreting and applying building and zoning by-laws, the British Columbia (B.C.) Building Code and regulations to resolve the more complex issues and files and ensuring compliance. Along with monitoring projects, you will discuss and advise on construction, alteration and repair matters with various external contacts, and provide orientation, guidance, instruction and mentoring to Building Inspectors.
The successful applicant will have completion of a diploma in Building Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution plus considerable related experience, preferably as a Senior Plan Checker or Building Inspector; BOABC Level 3 certification preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A BC Driver License and BOABC Level 2 Certification are required.
