Seasonal, Temporary Full Time And Auxiliary On-Call
Parks, Recreation and Culture Departmen
We are currently recruiting for self-motivated, responsible team players to work for the above seasonal assignments. These positions include Temporary Full Time positions with terms up to 7 months as well as part time positions with work on weekends.
The work is distinguished from that of Labourer I by the more complex and responsible duties performed which require previous related experience. Work performance is inspected during progress and upon completion for workmanship and conformance to established procedures.
You must enjoy working outdoors performing regular physical activity that is often repetitive in nature and in all types of weather. Preferred candidates will have relevant work experience involving general labour with landscaping, urban forestry or sports field maintenance.
These positions will work in a variety of Parks Operations areas including Sport Services, Urban Forestry, Infrastructure, and Landscape. Examples of duties include:
- Horticulture/Turf Care Labourer - cutting and maintaining lawns and grounds; planting and maintaining perennials and annuals. Other duties could include assisting in the maintenance of various landscaped, horticultural and turf areas in parks and along road boulevards and medians.
- Sport Services Labourer - assisting Groundskeepers with the care and maintenance of sport fields including seeding, irrigating, fertilizing, repairing and cutting turf grass areas. Other duties may include the delivery and clean-up of event supplies and litter in parks and trails.
- Urban Forestry – invasive plant removal, planting and maintaining habitat restoration sites, public education and outreach, and trail construction and maintenance.
- Infrastructure – park litter control, pressure washing and assisting Utility Workers and Carpenters with the maintenance and replacement of parks infrastructure assets such as playgrounds, fencing and benches
Education and training in Horticulture, Resource Management, and/or Turf Grass Management is an asset. Experience in driving a 3 ton truck, operating reel and rotary mowers, line trimmers, chainsaws, and other equipment used in landscaping, trail maintenance, infrastructure maintenance, or sports field maintenance would be an asset.
Requirements include valid BC Driver’s License and ability to pass and maintain a Police Information Check.
