The City of Kelowna Fire Department dispatch centre handles all 9-1-1 fire emergency calls for 72 fire departments within the Regional Districts of the Central Okanagan, Okanagan Similkameen, Kootenay Boundary, Central Kootenay, and East Kootenay and soon the City of Vernon and the Okanagan Indian Band. Our dispatch team processes over 255,000 emergency and non-emergency radio and telephone calls annually. This is an ideal job for an independent thinker with good computer skills who can type a minimum of 40 words per minute. You must be physically able to sit for long periods and be flexible to work long and varied shifts.
A Fire Dispatch Centre Operator receives/directs and/or dispatches emergency centre calls. As a highly organized communicator with exceptional multi-tasking skills, you will face a variety of urgent situations and have the ability to prioritize and stay calm.
This is an IAFF bargaining unit position and offers a salary of $25.17 per hour plus 14% in lieu of holidays, vacation and benefits. The successful candidate will work flexible hours averaging approximately 20 hours per week or more dependent on operational needs. We are a 24/7 operation and candidates will be required to work shifts that include days, nights, weekends and holidays.
