This position performs specialized work in providing direct support services to victims and witnesses or crime or trauma. The incumbent will leave from the Burnaby RCMP Detachment and provide immediate crisis intervention support and referrals at the scene of crimes, domestic disputes, and other related serious incidents, as well as any follow-up required. Other duties may include transporting clients as required as well as providing immediate information to victims on related agency resources available such as counselling, financial assistance, child care and legal advice. Performs other related work as required.
The qualifications for this role include high school graduation, preferably supplemented by courses in social services, victim services, trauma intervention or criminology, plus considerable related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of crisis intervention and follow-up support is needed, along with a working knowledge of court and police procedures as related to the work performed and the ability to effectively provide direct services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma, often under stressful circumstances is also needed as is the ability to prepare records related to the work. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, Class 5 is required, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
Please note: the hours and shifts for this auxiliary position are based on operational requirements and scheduled by the department to cover standby periods. This means that these positions require the successful applicants to be “on-call” for various times as needed (e.g. overnight on weeknights, weekends and holidays) waiting while on standby to be called to the detachment to provide emotional support, practical assistance and information to clients for the duration of the immediate situation. Candidates who live no more than a 30-minute drive from the RCMP Detachment are preferred.
