Engineering Assistant 2 - Utilities

The City of Delta’s Utilities Department is seeking an individual who is interested in the opportunity to analyze, plan and design municipal engineering services. This will involve reviewing long-range utilities plans, system modeling, sewer inflow and infiltration analysis, assisting in budget preparation, preparing cost and quantity estimates, and performing system design of projects related to storm, sanitary and water utilities. Drawing on your excellent writing skills, you will also prepare reports, memorandums and letters.

Job Requirement:
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, regulations, and policies related to the work. Perform a variety of inspection tasks when needed. A basic knowledge of municipal engineering design standards, construction methods, and inspection procedures are required, as well as a solid background in technical mathematics and analysis.

Required skills and abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Skilled in the use of a computer as it relates to the work; and,
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

Special requirements

  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.

Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a focus on civil engineering studies. Previous experience related to utilities and municipal engineering services would be an asset.

The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $27.45 per hour +12% in lieu of benefits. Interested applicants are requested to apply online at by January 27, 2019, quoting competition number 19-33 EX.
