Building Inspector


The Town of Gibsons is seeking a permanent full-time Building Inspector I, II or III.

Located on the Sunshine Coast, 40 minutes by ferry from Horseshoe Bay, the Town of Gibsons is a vibrant growing community of 4,200 residents. The Building Official works closely with other Planning Department staff and ensures the efficient delivery of building inspections including receiving and checking building permit applications, examining plans, approving permits for issuance, and conducting inspections on all types of construction to ensure adherence to building and plumbing codes.

To complement your Trades Qualification or technical diploma in building or other related technology from a recognized institution and valid BC Drivers’ License, you also hold the qualifications for one of the following BCGEU bargaining unit positions:

Building Official III - $42.07 per hour
  • Successful completion of BOABC Level III Building Inspector examination and minimum Level I Plumbing Inspector examination, (level 2 preferred)
  • Member in good standing with the BOABC.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ work experience working with codes and standards in building design and conducting inspections.

Building Official II - $38.96 per hour
  • Successful completion of BOABC Level II Building Inspector examination and Level I Plumbing Inspector examination.
  • Member in good standing with the BOABC.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ work experience working with codes and standards in building design and in conducting inspections

Building Official I - $36.93 per hour
  • Successful completion of BOABC Level I Building Inspector examination and Level I Plumbing Inspector examination.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience working with codes and standards in building design and in conducting inspections in the last 26 months.

This is a union position reporting to the Director of Planning and comes with a municipal benefit package including pension, medical and other benefits while working a 37.5-hour work week holidays in addition to the wonderful living and working surroundings.
