Reporting to the Bylaw Enforcement Supervisor, you will be responsible for inspectional and regulatory work in ensuring compliance with Park and Municipal Bylaws and Parking and Commercial Vehicle Licensing Bylaws and other vehicle related regulations. Bylaw Patrollers are appointed Bylaw Officers and patrol assigned areas in Burnaby. Patrols parks and trail systems, streets and lanes on assigned routes to enforce municipal bylaws; parking regulations, vehicle restrictions and commercial vehicle licensing bylaws, and related items. Answers enquiries regarding park use, parking regulations, investigates public complaints regarding park bylaws, illegally parked vehicles and prepares reports on same. Issues parking tickets and warning notices; arranges for the removal of vehicles; obtains registered owner information; notifies owners and prepares further charges as required. Assists as required on bike; and in the enforcement of vehicle related portions of the Noise Prevention Bylaw. Presents evidence and/or gives testimony as required. The work entails extensive public contact and an incumbent exercises considerable independence of action and judgement within defined limits. Work is performed under the direction of a superior who evaluates work performance in terms of effectiveness of enforcement, and standards of tact, judgment and conduct exercised. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of grade 12 plus some related courses and experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of Municipal bylaws and regulations relating to motor vehicle parking, traffic movement and the licensing of commercial vehicles; of Municipal policies, practices and procedures governing the work performed; of the geographic areas and street layouts of the Municipality. Ability to deal firmly but tactfully with the public and to exercise sound judgement and discretion in the performance of duties; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various internal and external contacts and answer enquiries relating to work performed; to prepare and present evidence for Adjudication Hearings as required; to prepare and maintain various reports and records and perform related clerical work; and to operate a variety of equipment (i.e. car and bicycle) related to the work safely and effectively. Current First Aid certification is preferred. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.

This is a Temporary Full Time position until April 29, 2019.
